DESCRIPTION
LOTR-TW is a Total conversion for Alexander Total War based on The Lord of the Rings trilogy, that allows the player to replicate the epic battles seen in the movies.
It includes a campaign, historical battles, remodeled cities and scenarios, wide variety of units and factions, and the possibility to control all the heroes who participated in the decisive War of the Ring.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: LOTR-TW OPEN BETA 2.0

1. You must first have Rome Total War: Alexander already installed!
2. Run LOTRTW_v2.0_OB.exe
3. Make sure you point the installer to your Rome - Total Rome folder
4. Once installed, right-click and drag your RomeTW-ALX.exe to the desktop and Create Shorcut
5. Right-click on the new short-cut and choose Properties
6. In the "Target" window in properties, ADD this line at the end (there is a space before the dash -):
-mod:alexander/lotrtw so the line may look like this:

"C:Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:alexander/lotrtw

note that it may not look exactly as that. DO NOT CHANGE OR DELETE ANYTHING BETWEEN THE QUOTATION MARKS.

7. Once done, right-click again on the short-cut and rename it to LOTR-TW

You're done and can play "The Lord of the Rings: Total War" 2.0 Open Beta.

8. Optional: if you want to have the opening movies of the mod to be LOTR-TW as well, just go into your Rome -Total War folder and run the file Opening_Movie_Swapper.bat
It will swap the original movies with LOTR-TW movies. If you want the original movies back, just run the file again. None of the files are deleted, they're only swapped around.

9. There's a music pack available as a separate download.

i think that the helm's deep battle is in the historical battles ..but wait

It seems the installer include an old version of some files in stead of the latest version.
It is not a bid deal, but you could find some minor bugs that have been fixed in the lastest weeks. The most important:
-When you select Gandalf the first time it appears a wrong advice message.
It should warn you not to make peace with Orcs and not to declare war to other good factions, if you want the help of the Fellowship.
-It is supposed that all the AI diplomats are killed the first turn. Well, in this version some of them are not properly killed (the diplomats of the first factions in the turn), so some AI factions will keep their diplomats.
-Some other minor bugs

We will make a mini-patch as soon as possible, but you can play normaly until then. After all, this is a Beta so you probably are going to find more of these bugs.

OK, the uploading to Filefront has finished. Maybe we'll need to repack it again with the latest files (or make a mini-patch) in the future, but since the campaign is completely playable, We release it for all you who have been waiting all these time.

The credits for this awesome mod goes to WLESMANA. He has been working more than 3 years to finish it and even harder these latest days to finish it in time.

Downloaded and installed.
I followed your instructions very carefully since I am waiting for this mod for more than a year now.

Looks like great work so far !!! Thank you Wles and anybody else.

BUT: When starting the campaign I got the error:

Filename doesn't exist:
alexander/lotrtw/data/models_strat/zcamp_gondor_diplomat.cas

After that Lotr-tw is shutting down .... so sad !

Hmm, I had a similar issue but I installed to the Alexander folder. This is as far as my tech support goes.

All I can suggest based on the fact that others have a working version is to redownload to make sure you didn't get a corrupted install. If you are reluctant to do that, uninstall first and then reinstall. If it is still the same issue, redownload and reinstall.

But this is just the unofficial advice of a member of the forums.

That said, I'm off to bed as it's very late here. I hope you all enjoy wlesmana's work as much as I am! The music add on will have to be released later today as I am unable to stay up.
